    20" African Ethiopian Gambela Native Woven Boat Canoe Gathering Basket
    This is an African Basket from the Gambela Region of Ethiopia.  They are handmade in Gambela, Ethiopia by the local people.  The characteristic boat shape is created by making a boat or canoe shaped frame with thin strips of wood and then weaving it together with grasses of varying colors of tan and brown. These baskets make a great bread basket.
    We lived in Ethiopia for a couple years in the late 1990's and traveled widely throughout the country, visiting local markets and acquiring a lot of Ethiopian materials.  We bought many Gambela baskets and have used them as gifts over the years and still have a few that I am now selling on eBay.
    This basket is in very good condition, probably as good as the day we bought it sometime in 1997-98, and shows essentially no wear.  It is 20 inches (51cm) long, 5.5 inches (14cm) wide, and 3.5 inches (9cm) deep.
    The items I sell on eBay are exactly those shown in my photographs.  I attempt to demonstrate details of the items in my photos.  Please study the photos for details.
