y. Historically Amethyst is given as a gift on the 17th wedding aniniversary, in modern times, it given on the 7th anniversary.
In ancient times, Amethyst was the stone of royalty. Purple was a hard color to come by and dressing in purple was reserved for kings and queens.  As was 'royal purple' jewelry, typically Amethyst.
According to wikipedia - The ancient Greeks wore amethyst and made drinking vessels decorated with it in the belief that it would prevent intoxication. In fact, the Greek word "
amethystos
" may be translated as "not drunk".  From the Greek
a
-, meaning "not" and
methustos
meaning "intoxicated".  Amethyst was considered to a strong antidote against drunkenness.  Which is why wine goblets were often carved from it or decorated with Amethyst.
In his poem, Amethyst or the loves of Bacchus and Amethyste, the French poet Remy Belleau invented a myth in which Bacchus, the god of intoxication, wine and grapes was pursuing a maiden named Amethyste, who refused his affections.  Amethyste prayed to the gods to remain chaste.  A prayer, the chase goddess Diana answered, transforming her in a white stone.  Humbled by Amethyste's desire to remain chaste.  Bacchus poured wine over the stone as an offering, dyeing the crystals purple, according to legend.

For simplicity sake we have gone to 4 box sizes. You need to add a minimum 1" (2.5cm) to EACH side of ALL minerals for bubblewrap. 1"inch bubblewrap top, 1" bubblewrap bottom, and 1" on each side. So a 2"x2"x2" mineral becomes 4"x4"x4" with bubblewrap.
Insurance
- Insurance is now included with the shipping price. And may be added to the above shipping price depending upon how fragile and expensive the item is.
Parcel post
- US customers, we no longer ship parcel post. It saves a few pennies sometimes, however it now takes 8 to 10 days to get your shipment. Which is too long for most of you to wait.
International shipping
-can take 3 to 4 weeks. Your country's customs can keep and inspect packages as long as they like. WE can to NOTHING about that. Canadian customers - we no longer ship United Parcel Service - UPS. Yes initially UPS is slightly cheaper, however we have had terrible problems with UPS making customers get a customs broker. This has cost the customer over 0 extra. On two other occasions they have sent back packages, because the address was street instead of drive (the customer inputs the address, not us). So we no longer will ship UPS. For some reason the US postal service does not do all this.

Photography
-   I photograph outside in full sun for true color rendition.  Occasionally clouds come over that make the color less than it really is.  On rare occasions I supplement with a flash to highlight details.   Lighting minerals correctly will bring out their best color.  Halogen works the best.  The hand or finger in the photo is to give you a comparision of size.  We realize it is hard to tell the size of an mineral by the picture alone.
Computer monitors
- We try very hard for accurate color rendition.  However images look different in color depending on the computer moniter.  I have even moved the laptop from living room (editing pictures) to office to upload and the glare from the windows changes the colors.  If you are unhappy with the item, you may of course return it within 7 days for a courteous full refund.
Measurements
- All are measured from the tip to across.  This is the industry standard.  Then we measured across in a X formation.
Payment
I strive very hard for good customer service IF there is a problem let me know. Your business is appreciated!!! I take other forms of payment as well. Since eBay owns Paypal they only let me list that. Contact me about other forms of payment.
Shipping
The post office - now takes 14 to 21 days on PARCEL POST to US addresses. WE highly suggest priority mail which takes 6 to 8 days to the US. This is a better value for only a few dollars more. In a hurry - chose USPS Express Mail. This is high. But gets there in 2 to 3 days. We will pack and ship your item within 24 hours with Express. We do not charge extra for this service. We only charge what the USPS does. No extra charge is added by us for faster handling. UPS - We no longer offer UPS as they return too many package for minor reasons. (such as street versus drive, that the customer listed) AUSTRALIA customers - Your government does not allow importing or exporting of fossils. I have no clue why. IF you buy/bid on one, it is at YOUR OWN RISK. I can not be responsible if any customs office takes your shipment.
