Hello, here is 100% Natural Orthoceras fossil in its contrasting colored matrix that has been polished into a large teardrop like shape! This fossil was quarried in the Atlas Mountains Morocco, North Africa.
This sculpture took many hours of preparation as the matrix is very hard.
They were squid like animals with hard shells that lived in the Silurian age a CRAZY! 400 million years ago. These Animals were in their fossilized state way before the first Dinosaurs ever walked the Earth!
The overall piece measures a nice! 13.7cm or 5 7/16" at its biggest.
