Antique BEEHIVE, CONICAL SHAPE Basket.
Very Good Antique Condition.
12" tall x 12" widest x 7" across rim x 10" across bottom. Weight: 1 lb 13oz
This is a beautiful, unusual basket and I haven't found a similar one in my research for accurate identification.  The conical shape resembles a beehive.  Overall, the basket is tight.  There has been some loss over time of the twigs which are part of the weave. The rim is reinforced with thin brown coated wire.  It has a very sturdy bottom.  I suspect this is from 1940s or 50s.  Could be earlier.
This basket is from the estate collection of my former mother-in-law, Eleanor Wolters.  This is one of the older baskets in the collection. Eleanor had an extensive collection of artifacts--masks, scuptures, baskets--from many countries and ethnicities. Unfortunately, there was no formal log or tags for individual items other than handwritten notes on a stenopad. She was an award-winning artist and understood the value of properly caring for artifacts and artwork.  Many of the baskets I am listing on eBay are in excellent condition because of this care.
I've properly cared for this basket for over 30 years and it will be packed
very carefully
for shipping.
