Description
This doll depicts a boy, he has a serape (shawl) and a beautiful braided straw hat. This is a wonderful example of Mexican folk art and is one of a kind. The doll is just over 11" tall. The other handmade dolls that look like this one are listed as "Antique" or "Pre-1930". I'm not sure of the age of this doll, but the serape, shirt and bandana all appear to be polyester, and polyester was not invented until 1939-1941 in England. The pants appear to be silk or a shiny polyester.
The doll is old, and was part of my Mother's collection. She was born in the 1920's, but I do not know when she acquired it, so I can make no claim as to age. I don't know enough about the craft to say that it is any older than 1970? I will leave the expertise up to the collector.
