Basketry is an old craft tradition common to many parts of Ethiopia. The art of making baskets take many forms in Ethiopia. The multi-ethnic composure of the country has resulted in diverse forms and designs  produced by various social groups across the country. Baskets in Ethiopia may differ in style, shape, color,pattern dimension or even function. Some have functional purposes such as for serving and storing food and other have purely ceremonial or decorative purposes. The materials used in the construction of traditional basketry include dried grass and straw, bamboo, dried false banana and palm leaves and fibers.
