This superbly crafted box is almost 4 inches long by 2.5 inches wide and 1.25 inch thick. The walls are 5 mm or almost .25 inch thick. The material is high grade and the pattern is beautiful! It weighs .6 lb.
Malachite is a copper carbonate. It has a hardness between 3.5 and 4. It crystallizes in the monoclinic crystal system, and most often forms botryoidally, fibrous, or stalagmite masses. This material is found in the oxidation zone of major copper deposits.
This stone's name is from the Greek, malache, - "mallow" in reference to its green leaf color.
