One Naturally Holey Beach Stone, Coquinoid Sandstone
Surf-tumbled by the tides and time.
Collected by me along the shores of the Treasure Coast.
This tube shaped stone (with a handle) is just over 2 inches long,
just over 1 inch wide,
and 1 3/4 inch tall.
The hole is minimum 1/4" diameter and fully accommodates the 6 gage wire.
The hole is larger than the wire used here....You probably have noticed the stone
embellishments within the tube. It creates a kaleidoscope type effect as you view
through the hole at different angles. Are those fairy wings in there?
All sizes are approximate.
The hole is long and relatively straight.
There is a cut-out on one side in the sidewall of the “tube”.
The “handle” allows for easy gripping and viewing through the large, long hole.
This handle creates another hole that would be useful for leather or other type cord.
Feels solid and smooth in your hand.
Nature is cool. Remarkable hag stone, tube-shaped.

Hag stones have occupied myth and magic folklore for centuries.

naturally occurring hole inside them. These stones are often
found along the coastal points, beaches, and streams. These
holes occur from the elements
beating down upon them over
many years.  There are also speculations that these mysterious
stones may have been formed by a “worm hole”. A Hag stone
is also known as a Witch Stone
or Adder Stone or Holey Stone
and has quite a bit of lore and many magical properties associated
with them.  Part of the folklore is that if you look through the holes
you can see fairies.
