    Description

This is a really interesting small purse (basket with strap) attributed to the Hausa people of Nigeria, decorated with cowrie shells and seed beads in colors of white, grey, brown and red. The purse is just 3.5" tall, 4" long, and 3" across (so not perfectly round). It has a long shoulder strap that is braided; the materials are palm fibers, vegetal fibers and straw dyed a rich dark brown color.  The purse is coiled beginning at the bottom center.
The condition is fair, with one of the straps starting to loosen (shown in last photo) and the rim is starting to fray in spots. The cowrie shells and beads have some age rubbing. Appears very old.
